Publication of Adèle Sutre‘s book, Géopolitique des tsiganes. Des façons d’être au monde entre circulations et ancrages, Paris, Le Cavalier bleu, 2021, 184 p.

Who are the Gypsies? What do Gypsy families from Auvergne, Roma from Romania or Finland, German Sinti, Spanish or Camargue Gypsies, Italian Zingari, English Gypsies, Australian, American or Argentinean Roma, Turkish Tchinganés have in common? Such diversity is accompanied by a plurality of representations and practices of space, between circulations and anchoring.
This geopolitics of Gypsy worlds offers keys to understanding diverse ways of being in the world, even though they are generally perceived as homogeneous from the outside. While the Gypsies have often been presented as a people “without history”, whose ways of being and doing are unchanging, Adèle Sutre endeavors to show the importance of historical processes in understanding contemporary issues.
